After the acquisition of Morgen's Diesel
Local Sales & Service in July 1989, Jas Marine was born. The original
store located in Riviera Beach Florida, opened it's doors with John Strauss
(President, Technician, Parts Manager, Service Manager) and Melinda Strauss
(Secretary & Treasurer). Along with acquisition came the Yanmar, Perkins,
and Universal dealerships. Next was Crusader engines and soon after came
Marine Power engines, opening Jas Marine up into the power boat market.
Jas Marine opens new store at 1917 North Dixie Highway
in West Palm Beach.
With the new shop and great location Jas was really starting to make
the local industry take notice. Luhrs and Mainship became one of Jas
Marine's largest customers. Tiara Yachts and Ocean Yachts also called
on Jas Marine to help service their customers. Most of all these Yachts
were gas powered. Luhrs and Mainship powered by Marine Power Engines
and Kohler Generators, Ocean and Luhrs with Crusader Engines.
About this time Yanmar Engines introduced its new power boat engines,
and gas to diesel repowers became big business. Luhrs and Mainship also
used the new compact diesels in their lines of boats. People are what
make a place great, and Jas Marine prides itself with its continued support
of its employees to be the best they can be.
In September 1997 Blake Morrow started as parts man and quickly became
Parts Manager and has remained a constant driving force, helping teach
the younger techs the most efficient ways to order parts, stock their
trucks and maintain the proper attitude which has been lacking in this
industry. Jim Poola came to work for Jas April 1998 as service manager.
During the next two years would come some of the biggest changes in Jas
Marines history.
Volvo welcomed Jas on board with open arms. Jas Marine attended the very
first EDC 1 class put on by Volvo in Orlando Florida. Prior to attending
class Jas invested in a Scan tool to diagnose problems with new computer
systems found in new Volvo powered boats.
One manufacturer is Carver Yachts using Volvo Products and having their
largest dealership, Stella Marine just a few miles down the road from
Jas Marine, was a perfect situation to service customers and products
of Volvo. Before this first year with Volvo was over Jas Marine would
have two fully trained techs, two scan tools and a lap top computer to
service Volvo product.
Cummins dealership was awarded to Jas Marine in May 2000.
Volvo and Cummins totally changed Jas
marine, these are two highly motivated, running on the cutting edge of
technology with online parts order, online warranty claims bar coding
of parts, computers to service the engines.
January 2003 another turning point, with so much new product coming from
Volvo Jas found itself traveling all over the state and other countries
to service customers. Most of the time Jas found itself daily sending
trucks to the Broward and Dade counties. So plans were made to start
a shop in Ft Lauderdale.
Growing demands of the Broward and Dade County markets and the complete
lack of qualified techs have given rise to rent a tech, an idea that
has been in the works for about a year between Jas Marine two stores
and Sun Power Diesel.
Jas Marine as of Nov 2005 - Both Stores switching to new computer system
